Is everything included in the course price or is there hidden costs ?
Everything except your own personal kit is included in the course price.
What is included in the course price ?
All meals, bush accommodation, logbook, certification and course badge is included in the course price.
Do I need to buy expensive kit for the course ?
You definitely DO NOT need to buy expensive kit for any Boswa course. We provide a short kit list of items which we recommend you bring along and then guide you step-by-step to build a compact and effective kit for your needs.
Where can I buy kit if I want to ?
We have a fully stocked survival shop at the bushcamp which will be open during the course. You will be able to buy everything you need or want from our shop with the guidance of experts. You can also conveniently shop for kit online at www.survival-shop.co.za
What can I expect to eat on the course?
All meals are provided in the form of ration packs with adequate nutrition for the course. We introduce you to wild foods in the form of edible plants, insects and animals but this is totally your decision if you want to try something on the course. You do not have to eat anything you do not want to.
Where will I sleep during the course?
On all the courses at our bushcamp you will sleep “survival style” in either hammocks with waterproof basha roofs or in shelters that will add to the experience. You will be well looked after and DO NOT WORRY about sleeping arrangements. It will all make sense on the course and you will love it.
What happens when it rains ?
As a joke I could say “then you get wet” but we care about our students and you will not be expected to spend a wet and cold night in the bush. Our sleeping arrangements include waterproof shelter roofs and you will be dry. Our bushcamp have a sheltered teaching area out of the rain where the course can continue even when it rains.
At what age can I join a course ?
We teach our courses to anyone at any age but if you are under the age of 16 you should be accompanied by an adult taking responsibility for you.
We regularly train kids from 7 years old to experienced people over 60.
Do I need to be fit to attend a course ?
No, you do not need to be fit to attend most of our courses although you will have to be in good health and have a reasonable fitness level to be able to attend the Extreme Survival course. All other courses are presented in a Bushcamp environment and you will not have to walk far on our courses.
Do I need to have previous experience to be able to attend a course ?
No, you do not have to have any previous experience to attend a Boswa Course and we will teach you from the start how to effectively survive in the wild. After attending our courses you will be able to survive on your own.
What will I learn on Boswa courses ?
You will learn all the skills needed to be able to make it out alive in a survival situation. You will be able to safely travel and explore any environment on our planet and you will have the skills and knowledge to be able to explore wild places on your own.
What time does the course start and what time does it finish ?
The basic survival course start at 07h00 on a Saturday morning and we will finish at latest 13h00 on the Sunday afternoon.
Is it safe to attend a course and will my car be safe during the course ?
We have a 100% safety record and are proud of it. You will be well looked after on the course and there are no dangerous animals or threats while you are on the course. Our bushcamp is surrounded by 2.4m high game fence and all gates are locked and guarded. Your car is parked a short distance from the bushcamp in a safe and secure parking area. All our instructors are professionally trained in survival and bush medics. You are in good hands and will be safe during the course.
